Crap Comic Relief

Started by: Tommy Two Stroke (15401)

After watching a really sick supposedly funny Alan Partridge sketch about a dead cat, I turned Comic Relief off in disgust, and that was shown before the 9.00pm watershed thing.

And this mon who is one of those presenting it.

Romesh Ranganathan

A so called comedian, he is the most unfunny comedian I have ever seen in my life, he is about has funny as a fart in a spacesuit, he is the one mentioned in a previous topic about how awful the 'Weakest Link' TV program now is and David Tennant is also crap too

Didn't like Bernard Manning. Can't stand Lenny Henry. I haven't watched children in need for years.

Not my sort of programme. My favourites from way back were Stan Boardman, George Roper, Charlie Williams and Mike Harding; now they were funny. Bernard Manning was just crude.

Add to that list Ken Dodd and on a good day Jimmy Tarbuck. Don't like any comedian who's every other word was a swear word Chubby Brown or Bernard Manning that is gutter humour.

Agree with everyone about modern comics . The only one who makes me laugh is Frank Skinner and he's knocking on a bit. .
Some of the old stuff hasn't aged too well though . I watched Kenny Everett and thought it was dreadful .

Modern comedy is not about telling ' gags' but more about instance in life and I think this Mon from Finland is funny, I would not pay to watch him but out of the modern comics

He's not bad

I have just watched the Kate Winslett bedtime story from last nights Comic Relief, and Ok that was shown after 9.00pm, but not long after 9.00pm so how many kids had stopped up to watch the program, and in a different setting of adult comedy I would find that story funny, but not on Comic Relief at that time

I would say, high on my list is Blackadder. Rowan Atkinson is the main character and he is brilliant in the role, but I certainly do not wish to take away the wonderful comedy acting of the others: Tony Robinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Rik Mayall, Patsy Byrne and the rest.

Roylew, yes I liked Ken Goodwin as well, with his childish/innocent way of speaking. After seeing this thread I looked up The Comedians from the 1970s on You Tube, and they’re all there. It’s a fantastic watch.

Who, though, can remember the Wigan comedian who did the clubs? For the life of me I can’t remember his name but he was brilliant. He didn’t tell jokes as such, he just talked about Wiganners and Wigan in general, always mentioning Hardybutts.

There was him, and another Wigan comedian who was very thin and always had to sit on a stool on stage because he was quite frail. He too just talked about Wigan and was very funny.

They’re both probably no longer with us as they were getting on a bit, even back in the late 90s/early 20s when I last saw them.

Sounds like Frank Randall could be one of them, mollie.
I agree that today's crop of "so called" comedians are pretty dire.

Mollie

Are you thinking about Harry Pemberton, he used to appear a lot at the Standish Lower Ground Labour Club.

Jimmy Whelan, the father of David Whelan, used to be a comedian and singer in the local clubs.

Tommy:

I will love you forever. Thank you, thank you. Yes, Harry Pemberton. Now he was a proper comedian. We saw him a couple of times at Lamberhead Green WMC and, even though his repertoire was pretty similar each time, every member of the audience were crying laughing.

Brasstoff:

The other one wasn't Frank Randall, but I believe he was excellent too.

Trevor Wallace?
I think he was from Wigan?
I only saw him once about 30 years ago in a club in the Bolton or Blackburn area. He was very funny.

Bless you lass. Yep, it was Trevor Wallace I was thinking of. He was so funny, but painfully thin, poor chap.

I'm happy now I've got both names.
